Les Jardins de Villa Maroc

Want to enjoy the luxuries of Essaouira’s finest hotels without the cost of an overnight stay? Well you’ll be pleased to hear that a handful of these hotels open their doors for people to enjoy their pool and restaurant on a day pass.

These Essaouira day passes are limited and always need to be pre-booked, but they offer the perfect mini-escape to indulge in some luxury for a fraction of the accommodation cost.

If your accommodation doesn’t have a swimming pool and you feel the need to escape the medina, a day pass to one of Essaouira’s hotels located in the surrounding countryside, is the ultimate way to treat yourself.

Read on for our recommendations of the best hotel day passes in Essaouira.

1. Les Jardins de Villa Maroc

Les Jardins de Villa Maroc is stylish, small resort, nestled in the Swiri countryside 10km from Essaouira, just off the road to Marrakech, and offers a day pass (11.00am to 5.00pm) to visitors to use the heated swimming pool and dine at the restaurant.

This is the sister hotel to Villa Maroc, Morocco’s oldest riad-hotel situated in the heart of the medina, and a transfer is included in your day pass fee.

Day passes start from 320DH per person, but you can also add on a hammam or yoga session to your visit.

2. Hôtel Domaine de L’Arganeraie

Hôtel Domaine de L’Arganeraie

Hidden off a dusty road through the village of Ghazoua, which is a 20 minute drive from Essaouira, Hôtel Domaine de L’Arganeraie is a beautiful setting for a day’s relaxation.

There’s a large heated pool and as the day pass (11.00am to 6.30pm) to use the pool is very good value (from 100DH per person).

This is a popular place for families (we’re regulars here with our boys). The lunch menu is a good selection including pizzas, burgers, tagines, and vegetarian options.

To get here, you need to pay extra for a transfer from Essaouira (100DH – priced by car rather than person), which the hotel will arrange for you.

3. Jardin des Douars

Jardin des Douars offers a limited number of ‘Chill Passes’ every day, allowing you to enjoy the botanical garden, the spa (à la carte), and the two heated swimming pools, one reserved for adults, the other for families.

There’s also a pool bar to enjoy cocktails, mocktails and other refreshments.

Open 7 days a week, from 11.00am to 6.00pm, exclusively by reservation and subject to availability, DH200 per person (under 2s are free). This fee does not include an à la carte lunch, which is compulsory for those visiting on a day pass and served from 12.20pm to 3.00pm. However, sunbed, towel and hats are included.

4. Villa beldi

Villa beldi offers a limited number of day passes each day to enjoy their heated pool. The strict limit on numbers ensures peace and tranquillity for everyone.

It’s possible to walk here from the medina as it’s only 3km from Bab Sbaa (the main entry gate to the medina, closest to the main beach). In fact, it makes for a lovely morning stroll before chilling poolside on the sunbed with a good book.

Open from 12.00pm to 6.00pm, the fee is DH150 per person, and you pay extra for the à la carte lunch. Sunbed and towels are included.

5. Le Medina Thalassa Sea & Spa

Hotel Le Médina Essaouira Thalassa

Located on the seafront, Hotel Le Médina is in a perfect location; just across the road from the beach and five minutes walk to Essaouira Port. This luxury Essaouira hotel is designed around a large outdoor swimming pool, offers spa facilities, and has three restaurants and two bars.

This is the only Essaouira pool day pass that you don’t have to pre-book. Just turn up at reception on the day (the pool is open to day guests from 10.00am to 6.00pm). As long as there’s a sunbed available, you are allowed to stay.

The price of access to the pool is DH250 per person. However, do note that the pool water is not heated and lunch is not included.

6. Heure Bleue Palais

Essaouira Hotel - Heure Bleue Palais

A 19th-century riad steeped in history, Heure Bleue Palais, is the only Essaouira hotel riad that features a swimming pool. This can be found on the terrace, boasting panoramic medina views, and is heated.

The price for a day pass is DH450 per person, which includes access to the pool, a two course lunch (excluding drinks), sunbed and towels. It is open for day guests from 11.00am to 6.00pm.
